From Homeless to Hope—God’s Faithfulness in the Wilderness
The Ford Explorer Moment
Let me tell you where God found me. I was in the back of a ’91 Ford Explorer—homeless, going through a divorce, crying every night. The irony wasn’t lost on me: I was fully employed but still homeless. I’d get up, go to Planet Fitness to shower and prepare for work, then spend my days selling high-interest loans to people who couldn’t afford them. At night, I’d be back in that Explorer, listening to Dave Ramsey on the radio and honestly arguing with him through the speakers.
But Dave Ramsey kept calling people to Jesus. And I realized something: I knew of God, but I didn’t know God. I’d been to Catholic school, Lutheran school—knew all the stories—but I was disconnected from Him.
In my desperation, God drew me to open His Word. Not because I was so spiritual or wise, but because I was so broken. And He met me there. On a yellow pad in the back of that Explorer, I handwrote my first budget while God started teaching me what His Word actually said about finances.
By His grace, things started to change. I paid off debt. I built some savings. I picked up a second job. And one day, I looked up and realized something—I wasn’t crying anymore. God had met me in that Ford Explorer and showed me that His Word actually works when you apply it.
God’s Provision Through People
God got me off the streets through a friend who, for reasons only God knows, walked into a Dave & Buster’s that day and invited me to stay in his daughter’s room. Then God brought Regina into my life in New Orleans. We started applying biblical principles together—getting out of debt, buying cars with cash, even draining our savings to pay for our wedding because we felt convicted about not borrowing money.
My father-in-law asked me to start coaching people at their church. That’s when God opened the door for teaching. In His wisdom for my journey, God had me walk it out first—not because you can’t teach biblical truth without living it (Paul taught on marriage without being married), but because I personally needed to learn that God’s Word actually works when you apply it, not just study it. That firsthand experience of His faithfulness became the foundation for everything that followed.
The Question That Broke Me Open
Years went by. I helped hundreds of people get out of debt, build savings, transform their finances. I was feeling pretty good about the ministry. Then a pastor asked me a question that I couldn’t answer: “How does it affect their hearts?”
I was floored. I literally had no answer. I’d been so focused on the material results—the debt paid off, the money saved—that I’d completely missed the heart. That question sent me searching, and God was gracious enough to show me Romans 5:3-5.
God revealed what I now call the Hope Snowball: suffering produces endurance, endurance produces character, character produces hope, and that hope doesn’t disappoint because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. It wasn’t my idea. It was God connecting the dots for me, showing me that He’s always been after the heart, not just the bank account.
That revelation sustained me through the darkest season of my marriage in Canada—when I was teaching hope while barely holding onto it myself, studying compassion while struggling to show it, learning the hard way that you can have all the revelation in the world and still fail without God’s grace to build the character to hold it.
God’s Patient Teaching
During those six years in Canada, God was patient with me. He showed me meditation on His Word. He taught me through the Parable of the Sower. He led me into studying Hebrew and Greek—not because I’m some scholar, but because I desperately needed to prepare my heart for the people He was sending me to serve.
God drew my attention to Proverbs 9:1: “Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn her seven pillars.” Through study and a lot of prayer, God showed me what I believe are the Seven Pillars of Wisdom:
- Wisdom – Fear of the Lord (the foundation)
- Knowledge – Gathering biblical information
- Understanding – Comprehending and believing truth
- Instruction – Learning how to apply it
- Rebuke – The conviction point where you choose
- Wise Counsel – Biblical examples and Jesus as the perfect model
- Prudence – Actually doing it in your own life
I don’t claim this is the only way to see it. But it’s what God showed me, and it’s become a way to systematically study and apply His Word across every area of life.
God’s Definition of Prosperity
In Texas, God gave me a vision for 400 million biblically prosperous marriages. I know I won’t see that completed in my lifetime, and honestly, I’m okay with that. The heroes in Hebrews 11 died in faith without receiving what was promised, but they were faithful anyway.
When God led me to study the word “prosper” in Scripture, He showed me something I’d missed: the first mention of prosperity in Genesis 24 is about finding a wife. The second mention is about children. Our society has completely warped this, measuring prosperity by money. But God’s definition starts with marriage and children. The economics come after.
That’s when God expanded what He was doing beyond just finances. He showed me that His wisdom applies to seven domains: marriage, parenting, financial stewardship, investing, life, ministry, and business. It’s all built on seeking His Kingdom first.
The Through-Line: Revelation and Demonstration
Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
God has been teaching me that seeking His Kingdom means two things:
First, revelation—asking Him to show us His truth, His character, His will.
Second, demonstration—actually living it out, bringing His Kingdom to earth through how we treat our spouses, raise our kids, handle our money, run our businesses.
I didn’t just study God’s Word in that Ford Explorer—by His grace, I applied it. I didn’t just receive the Hope Snowball revelation—God sustained me through the darkest seasons with it. I’m not just teaching these principles—I’m still learning to demonstrate them, still failing sometimes, still dependent on His grace every single day.
Everything is about receiving what God reveals and then, by His power, demonstrating it on earth.
House of Biblical Wisdom Today
In 2024, God opened the door for me to formally launch Wise Business LLC, doing business as House of Biblical Wisdom.
God showed me the Unshakable Man framework from Psalm 15—the character traits needed to actually hold the revelations He gives. He’s called me to start with men first, so from September 2025 through September 2026, that’s my primary focus. Then Unshakable Marriage. Then systematically through the seven domains: marriage, parenting, finances, business, leadership, health.
The goal isn’t addition—it’s multiplication. God’s plan has never been for me to do it all. It’s about equipping men who will transform their marriages, raise biblical families, build Kingdom businesses, and then go disciple others. That’s how you get to 400 million marriages—not by my effort, but by God’s multiplication.
If You’re in Your Own Ford Explorer Moment
Maybe you’re reading this from your own “Ford Explorer” moment—feeling hopeless in your marriage, drowning in debt, knowing your life is built on sand instead of solid rock. Let me tell you what God taught me:
“Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” – Matthew 6:33
Start where you are. If you’re a man, start with Unshakable Man. If you’re married, start with Unshakable Marriage. But in all things, build it on God’s Word and the principles He’s laid out.
I’m not offering you my wisdom. I’m offering you what God has taught me through His Word, through failure, through His patient discipline, through His relentless grace. The Seven Pillars, the Hope Snowball, biblical prosperity—none of it is mine. It’s His. I’m just a steward of what He’s given, still learning, still growing, still dependent on Him.
